This course is a prerequisite or co-requisite for
This course is an introduction to the language and problems of mathematics. The precise topics vary from year to year, but the emphasis is always on increasing the student’s “mathematical sophistication.” MTH 235 gives an introduction to proof techniques, but if you would like a more gentle introduction, consider MTH200W. Students taking the MTH 171 - 174 sequence will usually not take this course.
Introduces some of the basic techniques and methods of proof used in mathematics and computer science. Methods of logical reasoning, mathematical induction, relations, functions, and more. These methods are discussed in the context of specific mathematical problems and theories.
