 I posted a practice midterm here. It’s representative of the length, difficulty, type of questions, and coverage of the exam, but it’s definitely not exactly like the exam with only the numbers changed, so you need to study everything we have learned all semester.
 Exam 2 is next Wednesday, May 3rd. We will do inclass review on Monday, May 1st. The exam covers the topics of money, apportionment, recommendation systems, fair division, and math in the news.
 My regular office hours are Monday, May 1st 1:45  3:15. I’ll hold an extra hour of office hours Tuesday, May 2nd 2:30  3:30.

(3/24/2017) I handed back exams in class. The median score was 78.5, which was on the higher end of Bs. Great work all around! I enjoyed reading your exams a lot.

 Exam 1 is next Wednesday, March 8th. We will do inclass review on Monday, March 6th. The exam covers the topics of data/big data, image processing, and cryptography.
 My regular office hours are Monday, March 6th 1:45  3:15. I’ll hold an extra hour of office hours Tuesday, March 7th 2:30  3:30.

 Please remember to install MATLAB on your computer and bring your computer to class on Wednesday if at all possible. If it’s not possible, please arrange to share with someone.
 You may want to take a selfie or a picture of your dog or cat, or have someone take a photo of you so you have a fun photo to play with in class.

Course description:
We will study the nature of mathematics and its application. Emphasis on concepts and understanding rather than acquisition of techniques. Intended for concentrators in the humanities and social sciences. This semester’s focus is on Big Data.
