Given a circle, we can of course find its tangent space at each point. But can the information about the tangent space also determine the circle? We will study Lie groups and Lie algebras (the tangent space at the identity), and how they correspond. We will start from the basic definitions and build up to show that Lie algebras somehow determine their corresponding Lie groups.
