The concept of intermittency was introduced in the physics literature by Pomeau and Manneville. The “Manneville-Pomeau” or “intermittent” maps are the simplest interval maps exhibiting such behavior. They have been extensively studied in dynamical systems as a testing ground for new ideas. The purpose of this talk is to survey results on the thermodynamic formalism of intermittent maps, with an emphasis on open problems.
