We introduce a variational characterization of multisoliton solutions to the Korteweg-de Vries equation that is meaningful in \(H^{-1}\), which is the space of optimal well-posedness for this equation. As a consequence, we obtain orbital stability of multisoliton solutions in \(H^{-1}\). This is joint work with Rowan Killip.
