Talk
The Erdos distinct distance problem
Eyvindur Palsson, Virginia Tech University
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Zoom ID 573 239 4086
This is a talk in the CoronaVirus Lecture Series: https://web.math.rochester.edu/people/faculty/iosevich/coronaviruslectureseries.html
One of Erdos’ greatest contributions to geometry was his problem on distinct distances that asks: what is the least number of distinct distances among N points in the plane. This seemingly innocent question spurred a lot of other related questions, many of which are still being worked on today. In this lecture, we will start with an introduction to the original distinct distance problem and then move on to some related questions, some of which I have worked on with undergraduate students.
The .pdf file and the video file of the talk will be posted on the above-mentioned website after the lecture.
