I will talk about an intriguing relationship between two classes of solutions of non-linear partial differential equations on 3-dimensional manifolds: monopoles and Fueter sections. Time permitting, I will also explain how this relationship fits into the study of the Yang-Mills equations on Riemannian manifolds with special holonomy. No prior knowledge of the subject will be assumed.
