Also recommended, but not necessary:

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • We will follow the text quite closely. A previous instructors notes may be found on canvas and here. These notes contain some typos.
  • Homework will be assigned every two weeks on Mondays and will usually be due on Monday two weeks from the date of assignment. Homework is worth 40% of the grade.
  • There will be 4 exams. They will not be cumulative in principle, but it’s impossible to not avoid previously taught material. Each exam is worth 15% of the grade.
  • Grades will be posted on canvas, and will be curved so that the average score is 82. You can read off letter grades from the scale below.
  • Please use my utah email, and don’t email me through canvas.
  • I will not answer mathematical questions over email. Please come to office hours, ask me during class or setup an appointment with me. I’m here to help.
  • No make ups for exams, and no late homework. Extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and I will require documentation (e.g., a doctor’s note).
  • The best way to keep up with the course is to do the homework, and do problems from the textbook on your own.
