The purpose of this course is to describe the recent solution to
the Arf-Kervaire invariant problem by Mike
Hill, Mike
Hopkins and myself. I
will begin with a historical introduction to the problem, then outline
the homotopy theory needed for the proof and then describe the proof
itself.
